About the Class

American Heart Association Friends and Family CPR non-certification course will teach the basic CPR skills for infant/child and adult.

You will also learn how to handle choking emergencies.  If you're a parent, grandparent, or caregiver/nanny, baby proofing tips are essential. We always teach how to properly call the 911 system and we will advise you of what phone numbers to have in emergencies as well as what to have in your first aid kit. You will also learn prevention and treatment of common first aid emergencies.

Changes due to COVID - You will receive hands on practice on our infant/child mannequins; however, we are no longer doing rescue breathing on the mannequins.  We are limiting the amount of participants per class 8 people total (4 couples). Masks will be worn during the class even if you are vaccinated. All of our instructors are vaccinated.

About the Instructors

Laurie Torres, EMT-B is a Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Provider, CPR and First Aid Instructor for American Heart Association and owner of Baby Be Safe. Laurie completed her BBA in International Management from Pace University in 1992.

Laurie founded Baby Be Safe in 2005 after the birth of her premature twins. One twin was born with a heart issue which sparked her passion for learning about the heart, leading her to become a BLS, CPR, and First Aid Instructor. Laurie has over 15 years of experience as an administrator in the health care field working for hospitals, wound care centers, and home care. Laurie was determined to be a stay home mom and nurture her twins so they could thrive to be healthy young boys while maintaining a flexible work schedule. Today Laurie and husband Ralph are proud parents of 4 boys (Ethan, Aydan, Dylan and Brandon).

Baby Be Safe has grown into a business that not only teaches infant/child CPR, but also teaches Adult CPR with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED), BLS for health care providers and an array of First Aid classes. All Baby Be Safe Instructors are trained and certified under American Heart Association (AHA) and some are also trained in Emergency Care and Safety Institute (ECSI). We all share the passion of teaching how to save a life!
